The FEMINISM IN RELIGION FORUM is a place where studies regarding the intersections between feminism and religion are shared with a wide audience. We understand "feminism" to include the many voices raised to counter oppression and articulate women's well being. This chorus of voices name themselves as womanist, mujerista, feminist, and those yet to come.
The Feminism In Religion Forum dream was developed by a small group from the Teaching for Change conference in June 2005. The dream slowly grew into a reality and a commitment by a variety of conference members to create a website that would not only host discussions about feminism in religion for a wider audience, but also be housed with and in partnership to the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion (JFSR) and Feminist Studies in Religion, Inc. (FSR) the organizing body of these projects.
As a group, we have spent time debating, sharing, and defining how we name and describe the site as well as what we see developing on the site. We agree that Feminism in Religion includes the academic conversation about religion in feminist studies and feminism in Religious Studies. We are also equally concerned with how feminist activists identify as religious. We invite you to join us as we build and grow the Feminism in Religion Forum.
FiR Forum is maintained by four co-editors: Kate Ott, Kathleen McPhillips, Nami Kim and Gabriella Lettini. The co-editors rely on assistance and feedback from the Web Advisory board which Peggy Schmeiser chairs. The board is comprised of the FiR Forum co-editors, members from JFSR and FSR, Inc. boards as well as the webmavens for our sister pages.
Welcome to the forum.
