Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza New Scholars Award
The Board of Feminist Studies in Religion, Inc. announces that it is re-naming the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion New Scholar Awards, the Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza New Scholar Awards.
With great pride and delight we honor Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza, the Co-Founder and Co-Editor of JFSR, on the occasion of her 70th birthday (April 2008) with the Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza New Scholar Awards. Elisabeth's contributions to fostering critical feminist scholarship and building solidarity for change run deep and wide. By naming these awards given to promising feminist scholars after Elisabeth, we recognize both the historical impact of her work, as well as the many ways that her acumen and energy continue to enrich, inspire, and advance feminist studies in religion.
The Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza New Scholars Award signals our awareness of the need to encourage and give recognition to the emerging voices of new scholars, whose research and insights will shape the future of feminist studies in religion.
Beginning with the fall 2007 award, JFSR will implement a tiered awards structure. The first-place winner will receive $1,000.00, the second-place winner will receive $500.00, and the third-place winner will receive $250.00.
Participation in the New Scholars Award competition does not require an advanced academic degree. However, authors cannot have taught at the college or university level for more than three years at the time of submission. Submissions will first enter the standard blind review process. Once JFSR accepts an article for publication, it will become eligible for consideration for the New Scholars Award. A panel will judge submissions and determine the winners. To participate in this award, authors should submit three copies of the manuscript and include a cover letter stating her or his intention to participate in the award. Winning manuscripts will appear in the JFSR .
See our Submissions page for further submission details.
