Across Generations Description

Across Generations Project

Objective:  To foster feminist knowledge (in all its different articulations)  and dialogue between different feminist generations. We suggest that junior scholars and activists interview senior scholars and activists as to their feminist work. JFSR will publish the interviews of these conversations Across Generations  on Feminist Studies in Religion either on its website or in the journal.

Rationale:  Feminist Studies in Religion has not been able to create a sound institutional space such as a college, university or “hall of fame.” Hence, feminist knowledge in religion is not yet part and parcel of the curriculum in most institutions. With the retirement or the passing on of the first and second generation of the feminist movement such teaching spaces become more and more tenuous. Hence, we want to create a process in which senior and junior scholars and activists, students and interns, work together to create feminist knowledge about the work of  senior feminist scholars and activists  in and through e-mail exchanges, recorded interviews and video conversations.

Process:  We invite students, scholars and activists to engage in this project by  either identifying  a path-making scholar/activist whom they want to interview, or by choosing  another person (student, colleague, co-worker) with whom to collaborate for interviewing a scholar/activist pathmaker whose work and/or leadership they admire. The goal is to engender collaboration of young feminists and senior scholars and activists in religion, to get to teach and know feminist work through the interview process, and to share this work with a wider audience  record. We encourage feminists located in the academy to consider making this a project in an upper level course.

Guidelines:

  1. articulate key questions regarding a scholar’s/activist’s feminist pathmaking work,
  2. contact the person to be interviewed as to whether she is willing to do the interview either in person, per e-mail, on skype, or video The Editors at JFSR and the Website are available to help make contact with pathmaker scholars if this is needed.
  3. transcribe the interview, ask the person interviewed for approval and then
  4. submit to JFSR either  in printed or  video form or both if possible together with a short reflection on the process under both the initiators and “students” name.
