Might This Be the Time to Broaden the Reach of Feminist Theology?

Volume 41 Number 2
Author(s):
Nami Kim
Abstract:

Kim reflects on the enduring impact of PANAAWTM over four decades in shaping feminist theological discourse and praxis. She highlights the urgent contemporary challenges--militarism, climate crisis, and the rise of far-right antifeminist forces--that intensify threats against marginalized groups. She stresses the importance of intergenerational dialogue to keep feminist theology vibrant and accessible, drawing on voices like Angela Davis who call for feminism to be broadened and made more inclusive for younger generations. Kim also echoes Kwok Pui-lan's concern that feminist theology's future depends on creating infrastructures for cooperation across generations. She argues that PANAAWTM, rooted in grassroots justice and transnational feminist networks, is well positioned to foster such accessibility despite political and economic challenges. Emphasizing feminist theology's critical role in reading "the signs of the times" and imagining alternatives, Kim advocates for decolonizing theological imagination to break free from oppressive narratives. She urges continued collective, intergenerational efforts to envision and work toward a just, co-thriving future beyond domination and exclusion.
