Background:
Saint Mary’s College of California invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theology & Religious Studies. We seek a theologian and teacher in the tradition of the Second Vatican Council. There are two options for the preferred area of specialization. The first is Theological Anthropology, especially as it relates to contemporary areas of concern, e.g., gender and sexuality, human dignity and justice. The second is Comparative Theology, with an emphasis on Global Christianity / World Catholicism, e.g., interfaith dialogue, expressions of Catholicism across the globe, or the interaction between theology and issues of justice. Our student body is diverse, and we seek a candidate who can speak and relate to students of color, minorities, and women. Candidates from these under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will also be expected to teach in January Term and the Collegiate Seminar “Great Books” program, and contribute to the Catholic, Lasallian, and Liberal Arts traditions of the College.
Experience and Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate sub-field of theology (or have reached the ABD stage in their progress toward a doctoral degree [i.e., completion of all qualifying and competency examinations]). Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching effectiveness (particularly among undergraduates) and experience teaching biblical studies courses.
